Treatment Options at a Glance
At Cowichan Eyecare, we treat both evaporative dry eye and aqueous-deficient dry eye, which can be caused by factors like meibomian gland dysfunction, autoimmune conditions, aging or screen use.
We offer:
- In-office procedures for long-term relief
- Home care plans to support your results
- Specialized therapy packages for deeper treatment
Our team will work with you to create a custom plan based on your symptoms, lifestyle and eye health needs.

At-Home Dry Eye Treatments
Some dry eye conditions respond well to at-home strategies, especially when used alongside professional care. After a detailed assessment, we may recommend:
- Prescription eye drops
- Lubricating or preservative-free drops
- Warm compress masks
- Omega-3 supplements
- Lid cleansers and wipes
- Blinking exercises
- Eyelid hygiene routines
These tools can help support tear quality and reduce inflammation between in-office visits.
Our In-Office Dry Eye Treatments
While at-home treatments can support dry eye management, professional treatments can help relieve your symptoms. Our team offers many gentle and relaxing treatments to help improve your tear film’s functionality.
We’re excited to offer in-office treatments and dry eye therapy packages for your unique needs.
Microblepharoexfoliation (BlephEx) is a gentle, in-office procedure that deeply cleanses the eyelid margins to remove debris, bacteria, and biofilm buildup that can block the meibomian glands.
By restoring a healthier eyelid environment, this treatment supports better oil flow into the tear film, reduces inflammation, and helps relieve symptoms of dry eye and blepharitis. Patients often find their eyes feel fresher, clearer, and more comfortable following treatment.
Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a modern treatment for skin rosacea that is also effective for treating dry eye. High-intensity light energy warms the meibomian glands, helping express hardened oil and improving their function.
IPL shrinks inflamed blood vessels, reduces inflammatory chemical factors on the eye and tear film, and is effective against Demodex. IPL can also provide collagen tightening and aesthetic improvement to the skin around the eyes.
Low-level light therapy (LLLT) uses long-wavelength red or blue LED light to stimulate the meibomian glands on the upper and lower eyelids. This treatment is an effective way to improve dry eye symptoms and tear film functionality.
LLLT can use light wavelengths that range from 390–1100 nm. When addressing meibomian gland dysfunction, lid and corneal inflammation, and other symptoms of dry eye, wavelengths of 600–830 nm have been found to be most effective.
LipiFlow can help relieve dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction. This technology uses gentle heat and massage on the inner and outer eyelids to effectively remove blockages that may cause your dry eyes.
Radiofrequency (RF) is a noninvasive cosmetic skin treatment for reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Heating the deeper layers of the skin stimulates collagen and elastin production. This treatment can also help clear obstructed meibomian glands.
If you are interested in achieving tighter, younger-looking skin while treating your dry eye, then RF may be a great option.
Plasma pen therapy uses controlled plasma energy to create tiny micro-injuries on the skin’s surface. These micro-injuries trigger the body’s natural healing response, promoting collagen production and skin tightening around the eyes.
For dry eye patients, this treatment can also help improve meibomian gland function and oil flow. It is an effective option for those looking to address both cosmetic concerns and the root causes of evaporative dry eye.
Amniotic membrane therapy offers healing for patients with severe dry eye or corneal surface damage. The biologically active tissue contains natural anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties that help reduce discomfort, repair the ocular surface, and support long-term recovery.
This treatment is ideal for patients whose symptoms have not responded to standard therapies and need more intensive care.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses a small sample of your own blood to isolate healing growth factors, which are then applied as eye drops or used in targeted procedures. PRP stimulates tissue regeneration and tear production, making it especially effective for managing chronic or treatment-resistant dry eye.
Because it is derived from your own body, PRP is well tolerated and offers a natural path toward improved eye comfort and health.
