Personalized Treatments for Your Dry Eye Needs

Dry eyes can significantly affect your quality of life, causing red, irritated eyes. However, we can help relieve these symptoms by recommending several dry eye treatments. Our doctors at Cowichan Eyecare have experience diagnosing and treating dry eye, helping identify the root cause of your symptoms.

Visit one of our locations for dry eye treatments tailored to your unique needs. We have a variety of at-home and in-office treatments available.

At-Home & Professional Treatment Options

Cowichan Eyecare offers many in-office treatments to help tackle evaporative dry eye and aqueous tear-deficient dry eye. Along with allergies or a dry work environment, prescription eye drops can help address decreased tear production. Depending on the cause of your dry eyes, you may need a combination of treatments.

We’re here to help, providing you with at-home management tools or more specialized treatments at one of our locations.

Visit our dry eye spa page to learn more about our professional treatments and dry eye packages.

At-Home Treatments

Because there could be many different causes for your dry eye symptoms, you might benefit from a few essential treatments. These options can work as supporting treatments to help make professional therapies more effective. We can recommend the treatments we determine are best for your needs during your eye exam.

Our at-home treatment options include:

In-Office Treatments

While at-home treatments can support dry eye management, professional treatments can help relieve your symptoms. Our team offers many gentle and relaxing treatments to improve your tear film’s functionality. We’re proud to provide in-office treatments and dry eye therapy packages for your unique needs.

ZEST

Zocular eyelid system treatment (ZEST) is an okra-infused product with restorative and healing properties, including control of Demodex. It gently lifts and clears the oil, debris, and residue on your eyelid margins.

IPL

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a modern treatment for skin rosacea that is also effective for treating dry eye. High-intensity light energy warms the meibomian glands, helping express hardened oil and improve their function.

IPL shrinks inflamed blood vessels, reduces inflammatory chemical factors on the eye and tear film, and is effective against Demodex. IPL can also provide collagen tightening and aesthetic improvement to the skin around the eyes.

LLLT

Low-level light therapy (LLLT) uses long-wavelength red or blue LED light to stimulate the meibomian glands on the upper and lower eyelids. This treatment is an effective way to improve dry eye symptoms and tear film functionality.

LLLT can use light wavelengths that range from 390 to 1100 nm. When addressing meibomian gland dysfunction, lid and corneal inflammation, and other symptoms of dry eye, wavelengths of 600 to 830 nm have been found to be most effective.

LipiFlow

LipiFlow can help relieve dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction. This technology uses gentle heat and massage on the inner and outer eyelids to effectively remove blockages that may cause your dry eyes.

This gentle treatment lasts approximately 12 minutes per session. Full results are expected 6–8 weeks after treatment.

Radio Frequency

Radio frequency (RF) is a noninvasive cosmetic skin treatment for reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Heating the deeper layers of the skin stimulates collagen and elastin production. This treatment can also help clear obstructed meibomian glands.

If you are interested in achieving tighter, younger-looking skin while treating your dry eye, then RF may be a great option.
